Heather Seawright

I was born in Kingfisher, Oklahoma not too far from where my family had settled in the Indian Territories. My grandparents and my great grandfather were watchmakers and jewelers and I still use some of their tools in my own work. I studied art in Tulsa and worked with a goldsmith there before moving to Texas, back to Oklahoma, and then to Michigan 10 years ago. I come from a creative family with several artists, but I'm the funny one.
Using materials, techniques, color and form in non-standard ways, and letting the elements dictate their own arrangement, I try to allow my pieces to emerge rather than have a preconceived plan. Much of my current work is with found objects and paper assemblage, but I love to bead, make jewelry and work with exotic woods as well.
