Marilyn Mussman

I started playing with deconstructing clothing when I was volunteering at the Portage Resale Shop. I have seen how much clothing comes through the shop that would eventually end up in the landfill because it was not in style any longer. After looking at the Sundance Catalog I found a cool dress for sale for $220 & I thought I might be able to recreate something similiar so I started cutting. I was not out anything since the dress was being donated to the shop & probably would be passed on to the Salvation Army then on to the landfills. I have 3 friends from Ogden Dunes who instead of going shopping we would meet almost every week & create or recreate.

I have been an Operating Room Nurse for 30 years & after moving to Michigan with my neighbor's encouragement I entered in a juried show & was accepted. Then I was off to the races. I have taken lots of different classes mostly in textiles but have had no formal education in the arts.
